Part 1: What is a Giclée? Giclée (jhee-clay) is a French term referring to "squirting" liquids. In art terminology, giclée applies to squirting microscopic ink droplets onto art media, such as canvas or watercolor paper using a computer driven printing process for the purpose of art production or reproduction. To be a true giclée, the prints must be printed on art media, be able to be printed at any size and use high-gamut, moisture- resist- ant archival inks. Giclées are specifically targeted to being displayed in indoor lighting, such as galleries, or offices. Quality reproduction, color fidelity and long term archivability are major attributes. At present the giclées offered at this site are rated archival up to 200 years. When you think about the works of Degas, now in need of restoration to keep them from fading only after 100 years, this new state of the art printing process is well worth the investment. I will be presenting more information about the Giclée process each month. I will also take any questions that you may have and address them in my column for all to benefit.
